The Proposal

Little did Allie know she was holding the tickets to our future.  Burning Man was just around the corner, and along with all of the insanity involved with planning, Scott was planning something else.  He had just purchased an engagement ring and had to find a way to get it to Burning Man without Allie finding it in their shared luggage.

That’s when Scott contacted Matt.  Campmates Matt and Nathan were taking a trailer full of the camp’s gear and driving all the way to Black Rock City, Nevada.  So Scott put Matt on a mission… to be his Frodo Baggins and take the ring to Burning Man for him.

Their arrival to Burning Man was delayed a day due to torrential downpours that closed the gates.  It wasn’t until Tuesday that they got to the playa.  Shortly after setting up the tents, Allie went with Susie to the porta potties.  While they were away, Scott snuck over to Matt’s toolbox and found his precious.

That night, Allie and Scott rode their bikes onto the magical, vibrantly illuminated playa and went on an adventure to find Embrace — a 7-story wooden depiction of two bodies embracing.  After parking and locking their bikes, they stopped just outside the general perimeter.  Scott said, “I have a present for you.  Don’t freak out.” and pulled out a small black box from his pocket.  As he opened the box, a bright white LED light illuminated the ring.

Allie said, “Are you proposing to me?” and then loudly cried, “Yes!” — and they headed back to camp to share the exciting news!
